Michael Q. McGowan Memorial Award for Community Service
Honors a Smeal sophomore or junior who has demonstrated outstanding community service to either Penn State or their hometown community. The recipient receives a monetary award.
This award is given in honor of the nephew of a Smeal alumnus who loved Penn State. The nephew was a successful entrepreneur, who left a lasting legacy in his hometown community.
2014 Recipient: John A. Perrone '15 Finance
John Perrone is a junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance. Last summer, he volunteered as an intern for Habitat for Humanity, where he worked in the fields of finance and accounting, performing budgeting revenues and expenses, cost reporting, organizing and digitizing paper documents, and forecasting. He has also volunteered on Habitat build sites and at the Habitat ReStore. Perrone is a member of the Penn State Finance Society and a third-year member of the Penn State Ski Team.
