Michael Q. McGowan Memorial Award for Community Service

Honors a Smeal sophomore or junior who has demonstrated outstanding community service to either Penn State or their hometown community. The recipient receives a monetary award.

This award is given in honor of the nephew of a Smeal alumnus who loved Penn State. The nephew was a successful entrepreneur, who left a lasting legacy in his hometown community.

2015 Recipient: Aaron C. White '16 Finance

Aaron White is a junior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance. He is a member of a spring break service team, in which each member dedicates his or her spring break to community service activities in cities across the country. Through this service team, White has volunteered in Brooklyn, New York City, and San Francisco. He has also volunteered with a service team in Guatemala, a summer camp for underprivileged students in New York City, and a “Feed the Homeless” group in Philadelphia. White is a member of the Nittany Lion Fund and will be interning at Deutsche Bank in New York City this summer.
