Our Penn State Smeal College of Business research centers and institutes forge connections among leading researchers, senior executives, and prominent business educators to address today's most pressing business challenges.

Sample Research Center Initiatives

The Smeal research centers and institutes provide a network of experts who collaborate to accelerate the development and application of new knowledge. These are just some of the ways that practitioners and researchers work together:

  • The Center for Supply Chain Research facilitates benchmarking groups that promote the sharing of qualitative and quantitative data among member firms to improve supply chain management processes and operations.
  • The Institute for Real Estate Studies connects its members with the latest commercial real estate data from ReisReports, including metropolitan rankings and residential and commercial vacancy rates.
  • The Institute for the Study of Business Markets hosts biannual meetings for member firms focused on recent trends and challenges in B2B marketing. These meetings also facilitate connections among B2B marketing professionals--some of the leading executives in the industry.
  • The mission of the Center for the Business of Sustainability is to accelerate the integration of sustainability in business. A key element of our work is convening events where research faculty interact with industry, nonprofit and government leaders to develop business and market-mechanisms to address environmental and social issues.

The industry connections fostered through Smeal's network of centers and institutes enable our community of leading researchers and senior executives to shape the business practices that will achieve tomorrow's competitive advantages.
