Smeal Alumni Service Award

Honors an alumnus whose exceptional allegiance and involvement with Smeal has brought distinction to the college and the University.

2014 Award Recipient: Salvador Gala '03 Supply Chain (M.B.A.)

Salvador Gala is the strategic sourcing director for Mars Chocolate North America. He is responsible for the Commercial (Procurement) Team, which is in charge of raw materials and packaging strategic sourcing activities. Previously, Gala was the global senior strategic sourcing manager for Cocoa Commercial (Procurement) at Mars, where he spent seven years managing price risk and cocoa physical procurement for key chocolate ingredients such as cocoa butter and cocoa liquor. In this role, he was responsible for cocoa butter price risk management, and sourcing strategy for Mars Global Chocolate. Gala also held the positions of maintenance manager and plant manager at Goodyear of Venezuela, and operations manager at Electricity of Valencia, Venezuela. He received his bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Universidad Simon Bolivar, Venezuela in 1992. Gala resides in Easton, Pennsylvania with his wife of 20 years, Janet. They have three children, Salvador Jr., Daniela, and Alejandro.
