Diversity in the Smeal Ph.D. Program

Smeal College believes strongly in diversity in its Ph.D. student classes.  The Smeal doctoral program aims to produce top faculty who, as researchers, will produce the new business knowledge necessary to support businesses in the 21^st century and, as teachers, will educate and mentor the business persons of the 21^st century.  To do that, our graduates must appreciate and respect differences in race and ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation, religious affiliation, nationality and language and in physical capabilities.  Moreover, they must themselves act as roll models for the diverse student bodies attending the business schools of the 21^st century.  Thus, it is particularly important that Smeal’s Ph.D. program achieve a balance across a number of dimensions, including but not limited to: gender, race and ethnicity, and domestic versus international.

Thus, the Smeal Ph.D. program strongly encourages applications from competent applicants of all socio-economic groups, a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
