Sheila Burkholder serves as Director, Biogas Development at Neogenyx Fuels, LLC, an Ameresco company. Sheila began her career in the energy sector over 30 years ago with a start-up company concentrated on cogeneration. The company rebranded as Aria Energy and turned its focus on the development of renewable energy projects using multiple sources of biogas. Over the next several decades, Sheila was integral in growing the company into an industry leader in renewable energy with over 50 projects producing 223 MW of renewable electricity and over 500 million gallons of Renewable Natural Gas annually. She has held various roles in Commercial Operations, Asset Management, and Project Development, ultimately directing all corporate development for Aria Energy.

Sheila brought her experience developing successful public/private relationships and renewable projects to Ameresco and applies it to her role developing biogas and energy related projects. As the Director of Biogas Development for Neogenyx Fuels, she creates a strategy to build a strong base of industry relationships and utilize innovative contract structures to facilitate execution and secure attractive offtakes.

She is responsible for the development of a range of projects with her prime role to identify and develop a renewable project from inception through to operation, serving as the catalyst and initiator of the business structure, contract negotiation and implementation. Working with biogas sourced by landfill gas, wastewater treatment projects and dairy and beef farms, she has continued to develop sustainable renewable energy projects that reduce carbon emissions across the US. She is an active member of the American Biogas Council, RNG Coalition and is experienced in testifying before the EPA and FERC on behalf of renewable energy project interests.

Sheila earned her BS in Marketing from Penn State University and an MBA, with a specialization in Finance, from Eastern Michigan University.
