This session is designed to introduce blockchain technology, share industry thought leadership, and discuss future research opportunities for Smeal College of Business faculty and Ph.D. students.
A Blockchain Primer, Envisioning the Technology and the Future Supply Chain

Blockchain is an emergent technology primed to create more transparent, sustainable, and cost-efficient business processes. For supply chain researchers, the use of blockchain technology can provide critical insights and innovative opportunities to improve the supply chain. The research-focused session will be presented by Henry Ines, CEO and co-founder of Chainparency. Supply chain researchers will learn more about:
- Tenets of blockchain
- Various types of blockchain technologies
- Existing and planned use cases
- Integration of supply chain research
Smeal and CSCR are proud to hold an established partnership with GoChain, a leader in enterprise and government blockchain solutions. This presentation will serve as the first step in generating research opportunities for SC&IS faculty, including grants and access to data for research purposes. Henry Ines
CEO and Co-founder of Chainparency
Henry Ines has 20+ years of professional experiences as a global executive, former VC, advisor, and entrepreneur. He is currently the CEO and co-founder of Chainparency, a technology startup and developer of the GoTrace system: the first true, turnkey out-of-the-box SaaS blockchain traceability solution for any organization regardless of size or budget. Ines also serves on the Steering Committee of the GoChain Foundation, the developer of the GoChain blockchain: a highly scalable, enterprise-grade, 100% Ethereum-compatible, and "green" blockchain protocol based on a novel "Proof of Reputation" consensus framework, which is anchored by a consortium of highly reputable organizations to include Fortune 500, publicly traded companies, NGOs, and universities. Ines also continues to advance the development of multiple GoChain blockchain-based enterprise solutions and initiatives to include the Zeromint NFT Marketplace, which empowers artists and creators to sustainably and responsibly mint non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Previously, Ines served as CEO of Shivom Ventures (now HLTH), a biotech startup and developer of an innovative clinical SaaS analytics platform and genomics datahub powered by AI and blockchain. Ines began his career as a management consultant (ex-Price Waterhouse & PwC) and corporate finance, sell-side M&A advisor (ex-PwCS and M&T Bank) before spending ~ 10 years in Silicon Valley and Asia as a tech VC and advisor while at DragonVenture, DFJ Dragon, and DraperDragon Funds.
Ines is also an executive advisor to GENERATION, an Esports and video games consultancy, which offers clients a broad range of services ranging from professional Esports tournaments, educational programs, to the development of gaming-related assets and NFTs. He also serves on the Board of Advisors of Cappasity, developer of a proprietary client-based scanning software and a SaaS platform, which enables the fast production, embedding, and analysis of 3D content. He also serves on the Global Advisory Panel at the Institute for Decentralized Crypto Asset Professionals (IDCAP).
Ines is a frequent speaker on tech and enterprise blockchain solutions and routinely lecturers at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore. He is passionate about working with visionary leaders & entrepreneurs and leveraging innovative technologies for impact and addressing some of the world’s greatest problems. Ines holds an M.B.A. from Duke University Fuqua School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the Pennsylvania State University Smeal College of Business.
