Application Process for New At-Large Directors

Smeal At-Large Directors Application Process

Smeal alumni may apply for consideration to serve as an At-Large Director of the Smeal Alumni Society Board. The mission of the Alumni Society is to provide opportunities for networking, volunteerism, and lifelong learning to its diverse alumni community. Smeal is more than a leading academic institution; it's an asset for life.

Alumni who would like to be considered as candidates to serve as an At-Large Director may complete the online application form. The selection committee will consider service to Penn State, with an emphasis on quality of service to Smeal as a volunteer for at least two years. The Committee also highly considers the current makeup of the current Directors' demographics (i.e. gender, age, race, ethnicity, degree type, location, etc.) and aims to have a diverse slate of candidates and Directors.

At the end of the form, applicants will need to upload a document addressing the following: Describe your past and current involvement with the Smeal College of Business, with an emphasis on your involvement in the last 5 years. Please include as much detail as possible in regards to the amount of time you were/are involved (e.g. a one-time event, a year-long initiative, etc.). Please also describe your reasons for applying for an At-Large Director position, and how, as an At-Large Director, you intend to contribute to the overall mission of the Smeal Alumni Society. Please limit your response to no more than 500 words.

An optional letter of support that emphasizes the candidate's volunteer efforts may also be submitted.

  • The deadline for accepting applications is February 10, 2025. The 2025 election will take place during the spring Alumni Society Board Meeting on March 27.
  • The Board Executive Committee will meet in February to review all of the candidates who have submitted an application and determine the election slate. The Committee will consider service to Penn State, with an emphasis on quality of service to Smeal as a volunteer for at least two years. The Committee also highly considers the current makeup of the current Directors' demographics (i.e. gender, age, race, ethnicity, degree type, location, etc.) and aims to have a diverse slate of candidates and Directors.
  • Each applicant will be contacted after the February Executive Committee meeting to let them know if they were chosen for the slate.
