Smeal Update: January 28, 2022

As part of the college’s brand refresh, Smeal served as the official game sponsor for last Friday’s hockey game against Wisconsin. In addition to recognition on the scoreboard at Pegula Ice Arena, Chuck Whiteman was interviewed during the first intermission by play-by-play announcer Brian Tripp.

Save the Date: Executive Insights with Mohammed Mijindadi

Mohammed Mijindadi, the president of GE Nigeria, will be the first Executive Insights guest of the spring semester. Mijindadi, a Smeal MBA graduate, will engage in a moderated discussion via Zoom at noon Feb. 25. He was featured on the cover of the fall 2021 issue of Smeal Magazine. Staff invited to apply to Giving Voice to Values

As mentioned in this week’s Smeal Community Zoom, the college is once again offering a professional development opportunity for staff that builds on the internationally recognized Giving Voice to Values program. Those interested can apply online for the spring 2020 cohort. Review of applications will begin next week, and the cohort will be chosen on a rolling basis until capacity is reached.

Don’t feel well? Play it safe, stay home

We applaud the efforts of our Smeal Community in rallying to meet our staffing demands to ensure excellent customer service. However, in this season of cold, flu and the omicron variant of COVID-19, we ask that you err on the side of caution when you don’t feel well. The University offers health guidelines on what to do if you feel sick.

Over-the-counter COVID tests covered by Penn State health plans

As a reminder, as of Jan. 15 the Biden-Harris administration is requiring insurance companies and group health plans to cover the cost of over-the-counter, at-home COVID-19 test kits. Additional information can be found online for employees and their families enrolled in a Penn State health plan.

ParkMobile on-demand zone parking available on campus

Employees who are working a hybrid schedule and don’t want to pay the full price of parking permits now have an option. ParkMobile on-demand zone parking is available at University Park in select parking areas. Additional information can be found online.

Smeal Business Bash available again at Creamery

After a brief hiatus, Smeal Business Bash ice cream is once again available at the Berkey Creamery. Formerly known as Birthday Bash, the rebranded flavor features yellow cake batter ice cream, frosted cookie freckles, and blue frosting swirl. Smeal-branded half gallons, as well as cups and cones, have been popular purchases.

Brent Ambrose, Jason and Julie Borrelli Faculty Chair in Real Estate and director of the Institute for Real Estate Studies, is quoted in a story about the rise in residential property listings and prices in Cambria and Somerset counties. Read the story.
