Gidos’ $500,000 gift will support Smeal FinTech initiatives
The college has received a $500,000 gift from alumni Jeff and Wendy Gido to endow the Jeff and Wendy Gido – Goldman Sachs Distinction in Financial Technology Fund. Read the story.
Smeal 2022 Faculty Teaching Awards announced
The college announced the recipients of the 2022 Faculty Teaching Awards at the Fall All-College Meeting last Tuesday. Before 2021, the college awarded only two teaching awards. Thanks to the work of a dedicated committee led by Sam Bonsall, that list has expanded to 10. It includes undergraduate, master’s level, doctoral, and online teaching, as well as awards for innovation and impact. Read the story.
Three Smeal alumni receive Alumni Fellow Award
Three graduates of the Penn State Smeal College of Business — Jean Oelwang, Larry Raiman, and George Strickler — were honored Wednesday night with the Penn State Alumni Association’s Alumni Fellow Award. Brief sketches of each honoree can be found in a Penn State News story. Read the story.
Lina Wang wins national doctoral dissertation award
Lina Wang, an assistant professor of supply chain and information systems, received the 2022 Doctoral Dissertation Award from the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals at its Academic Research Symposium held recently in Nashville. The award recognizes doctoral students who demonstrate significant originality and technical competence in any supply chain function. Wang’s dissertation, titled “Platform Design and Operations in the Last-Mile of the Supply Chain,” can be found online. Read the paper.
Nominations open for 2023 faculty and staff achievement awards
Penn State Human Resources is now accepting nominations for the Faculty and Staff Achievement Awards for 2023. Given annually, these awards recognize the efforts of faculty and staff who go beyond their basic duties to bring about positive and lasting change to the University and/or to the community. Lewellen’s research featured on NPR
Research conducted by Stefan Lewellen, assistant professor of finance, appeared on NPR’s Marketplace Morning Report. His co-author on the study discussed their findings, which examined the economic consequences of partisan redistricting, specifically people’s ability to borrow money. Listen.
