Five Questions with a Student...

  1. What is your academic rundown?
I am a third-year student majoring in Management with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies.
  1. Why did you choose to major in Management?
I chose to major in Management because of the passion I have for leading, guiding, and inspiring others. I enjoy participating in and collaborating with teams to achieve common goals and objectives. Additionally, I have strong leaders in my family who have demonstrated what leadership entails by pushing me to work hard and become the best version of myself. They have encouraged me to pursue this major as a lifelong career.
  1. What are you involved in at Penn State, and how do these activities complement your Management coursework?
I am involved in various organizations and clubs at Penn State, including the Management Major Ambassadors. My various roles provide me with practical experience and the opportunity to directly apply what I am learning in my Management coursework. For example, as a Management Ambassador, I am sharpening my skills in leadership, decision-making, and teamwork. Also, as a member of Burning Hearts, a Christian organization, and specifically the President of the girl’s group, I hold a leadership position on the board of the large group. Each week, I collaborate with members to review progress towards goals and other initiatives and to ensure continuous improvement. Through these engagements, I have the opportunity to work with a diverse set of people from different backgrounds, strengthening my communication abilities.
  1. What is the best advice you have ever received?
Before beginning college, my mom gave me the wise advice: Say “yes” to opportunities as they come! I have learned to embrace opportunities, even when they push me out of my comfort zone. Saying “yes” has allowed me to grow, learn, and pursue experiences that would not have been possible if I turned away out of uncertainty or discomfort. Stepping into the unknown has led to much personal and professional growth that ultimately surpasses the nervous feelings that we all get when entering into an unfamiliar position. Embracing new opportunities has become a guiding principle in my life, opening doors to fulfilling experiences and meaningful connections.
  1. What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy reading, spending time with friends and family, playing pickleball in the IM, cooking and baking, watching movies, and my personal favorite, going on coffee runs. These activities bring me happiness and relaxation, and contribute to my overall well-being - providing time for connection, enjoyment, and rejuvenation.
