A Step-by-Step Guide to Determining Mode of Instruction
A Step-by-Step Guide to Determining Mode of Instruction
We know this is a trying time for many of you, made more uncertain by the status of your class mode of instruction. We want you to know we’re flexible, and we’ll work with you to find a solution. To help you determine the mode of instruction for each class on your current schedule, the Smeal Office of Undergraduate Education prepared the following step-by-step how-to guide. We hope this helps answer many of the questions you have about your fall 2020 courses.
Determining the Mode of Instruction
You can determine what the current Mode of Instruction for your enrolled classes is by following these steps:
Step 1: Navigate to your "My Student Center" page on LionPATH
Step 2: Click on "MORE" inside the "Class Schedule" box

Step 3: Click on the blue hyperlinked Section number for each course

Step 4: View "Instruction Mode" for each course. Here are the different options you may see:
- COVID Web (Remote Asynchronous) courses will not have a "Day/Time Designation" and list WEB as the "Room,", like this example of CAS 100B. COVID WEB: online course without a required time each week to log-in to watch/participate in a live lecture.

- COVID Remote (Remote Synchronous) courses will have a "Day/Time Designation" and list Zoom as the "Room", like ENGL 128N in this example. COVID Remote: online course with a required time(s) each week to log-in to watch/participate in a live lecture.

- In-Person and COVID Mixed-Mode courses will have both a "Day/Time Designation" and a "Room" designation, like PSU 6 and AG 160 in these examples. COVID Mixed-Mode: a course that will meet in person at least some of the time. Your professor will provide additional details regarding how the course will be structured.
