Faculty and graduate students within the Supply Chain and Information Systems Department at Smeal actively pursue both theoretical and applied research, often collaborating with colleagues in other disciplines or in industry. Supply chain faculty are nationally and internationally recognized scholars, holding editorships, associate editorships, and editorial board memberships on more than twenty prominent refereed journals.

Center for Supply Chain Research®️ (CSCR®️)
Penn State's Center for Supply Chain Research is one of the nation's leading institutions dedicated to research and education in the field of logistics. Much of the resource base for the Center is drawn from Penn State's Department of Supply Chain and Information Systems. With 34 faculty members and over 1,000 student majors, the department is one of the largest academic concentrations of supply chain education and research in the U.S.
Institute for the Study of Business Markets
The Institute for the Study of Business Markets is a center of excellence in the Smeal College of Business. It is networked with researchers, educators and practitioners in business-to-business marketing in companies and universities throughout the world.
Laboratory for Economics Management and Auctions
The Laboratory for Economics Management and Auctions provides researchers in economics and management with a laboratory environment in which the object of study can be manipulated in a controlled way (much as lab techniques are used in natural sciences).
Thomas D. Larson Pennsylvania Transportation Institute
The Thomas D. Larson Pennsylvania Transportation Institute is Penn State’s transportation research center.
