Organizational Structure

A description of the organizational structure of the Penn State Investment Association.

The organizational structure of the Penn State Investment Association is as follows:

PSIA Executive Board

The PSIA Executive Board is made up of five students that are selected through application and interview process by the existing executive board. Selection is based on fund manager performance and leadership displayed throughout the student’s career. The President is in charge of leading the daily operations of the Nittany Lion Fund and serves as the Director of Investor Relations to the 76 investors and alumni. The Vice President assists the President and directly manages the Penn State Investment Association. The Chief Investment Officer oversees sector performance and manages the allocations of cash based off market theses and research. The Treasurer handles all funds used in the Nittany Lion Fund and plans the bi-annual Wall Street Trip. The Secretary manages all logistics including room reservation, the stock pitching process, and all communication between members of the Nittany Lion Fund, Alumni, Investors, and PSIA members.

Equities Research Director

The Director of Equity Research, selected by the Executive Board through application and interview process, is responsible for monitoring new portfolio ideas that can be beneficial to the Nittany Lion Fund. Several times a month, the director is in charge of overseeing the research on new holdings completed by the sector analysts.

Economic Analysis Director

The Director of Economic Analysis is selected by the Executive Board through application and interview process and oversees education for Fund Managers about the economic environment. He or she conducts weekly educations for Fund Managers about developments in the global economy and discusses how it may affect the holdings of the Nittany Lion Fund.

Portfolio Analysis Director

The Director of Portfolio Analytics is selected by the Executive Board through application and interview process and is responsible for generating weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial analysis of the holdings of the Nittany Lion Fund in order to inform Fund Managers about the performance of the holdings of each sector and the fund as a whole.

Risk Management Director

The Director of Risk Management is appointed by the Executive Board through application and interview process and reviews the Nittany Lion Fund’s risk profile, makes suggestions in order to mitigate risk, and reviews previous Nittany Lion Fund transactions in order to evaluate the success of previous trades and strategies.

Compliance Director

The Director of Compliance is appointed by the Executive Board through application and interview process and ensures that the Nittany Lion Fund portfolio is in compliance with the fund’s parameters which are set forth by the board of directors and ensures that fund managers are fulfilling the requirements of membership in the Nittany Lion Fund.

S&P Sector Coverage

Ten Lead Analysts and ten to fifteen Associate Analysts are selected by the Executive Board through application and interview process.

Lead Analysts are responsible for managing one of the ten portfolios in the Nittany Lion Fund which are based on the 10 S&P 500 sectors. The Lead Analyst is responsible for choosing which Companies to pitch for the portfolio. The Lead Analyst works with the Associate Analyst(s) of the portfolio to develop investment pitches, weekly, monthly, and annual reports, as well as educations for the Penn State Investment Association breakout meetings.

Associate Analyst is the entry level position in the Nittany Lion Fund which Penn State Undergraduate students can apply for at the end of each semester after going through the Penn State Investment Association program.
