Four SC&IS Seniors Awarded 2019 MIT Supply Chain Excellence Award

Four Smeal College of Business Supply Chain students were awarded the MIT Supply Chain Excellence Award as the top seniors studying supply chain.

This year, four seniors majoring in Supply Chain and Information Systems received the MIT Supply Chain Excellence Award. This award is bestowed annually to the top seniors studying supply chain and industrial engineering.

Winners of the awards are given a tuition scholarship of $25,000 towards the masters degree program in Supply Chain Management at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Runners-up are awarded a $10,000 tuition scholarship to the same program.

The award was presented by Penn State Supply Chain alum Danny Yunes, who received his Masters in Engineering Logistics from MIT. He currently works in Global Operations and Strategy at Logistics Plus, Inc. in Erie, PA.

First Place Winners:

Maria Lucchi is a Supply Chain and Information Systems major from Selinsgrove, PA, and a member of the Schreyer Honors College and the Sapphire Leadership Academic Program. Lucchi will be working for Corteva Agriscience as a Material Planner. 

Maria Tartaglia is a Supply Chain and Information Systems major with a double minor in International Business and Sustainable Leadership. From Middletown, MD, Tartaglia will be working for Bose in their Supply Chain Leadership program.

Benjamin Vruwink is a Supply Chain and Information Systems major from State College, PA, and a member of the Schreyer Honors College. Vruwink will be working at A.T. Kearney in Chicago, IL, as a Sourcing Analyst.

Runner Ups:

Kaitlyn Rakestraw is a Supply Chain and Information Systems major with a minor in Information Systems Management and a member of the Schreyer Honors College. From Beaver Falls, PA, Rakestraw will be working for Dicks Sporting Goods as a Merchandising Trainee. 

Kara Nardi is an Industrial Engineering major from Somers, NY and a member of the Schreyer Honors College. After graduation, Nardi will be working for Appian Corporation in Washington, D.C. as an Associate Consultant.
