Tips for Working with International Students
Visa regulations, guidance, and processes are complex and can change with little notice. It is best to never advise students on their immigration options or requirements. Please direct them to ISSA or advise them to seek guidance from an experienced immigration attorney.
ISSA has the following resources to help you assist your mentor.
ISSA OPT Resources for F-1 Students
- OPT Summary, Application, and Regulations
- Study in the States OPT Reporting Requirements
- International Student Career Resources
- Penn State Career Services
- Answering Question About Visa Sponsorship on Job Applications
Current students and alumni can access iStart and ask immigration questions of their international student adviser via the Submit a Question form. These are typically reviewed within 48 business hours after submission.
Current students and alumni can request a phone, virtual, or in-person advisement.
ISSA cannot answer questions regarding other visa types. If an F-1 student on OPT wishes to learn more about the various U.S. visa types and their options after their F-1 visa status ends, we advise they consult with an immigration attorney.
ISSA monitors potential changes that could affect our international community. Current students and alumni can visit our Immigration Resource webpage for updates.
Webinars for Students
Klasko Immigration Law Partners conducts a workshop annually for our international students and scholars annually on their options post-study. Students should check their PSU email for updates on when those take place.
ISSA offers employment webinars each semester. That schedule and the link to register can be found on our Webinars webpage.
