Stephen Reeves '81 is a retired financial executive with nearly 30 years of experience with start-ups, Fortune 500 companies and in public accounting.

 

Most recently Mr. Reeves was the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Enviva, LP, which was a private equity financed entrepreneurial start-up focused on the use of U.S. forest residuals to replace coal in power generation in Europe and Asia.  Their product helps their customer’s obligations on carbon emission reductions.  Mr. Reeves helped the company, which originated from an MBA project by its founders, build financial and other business processes and succeeded in helping the company go public on the NYSE as well as access the public debt markets.  The company’s access to public capital markets was the first of its kind in the industry. 

Prior to Enviva, Mr. Reeves spent fifteen years at The Black & Decker Corporation, a global producer of power tools, in several finance positions including as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to Black & Decker, Mr. Reeves worked in the audit practice of Ernst & Young. 

Mr. Reeves has been active with the Smeal College since graduation. He has established and funded a Trustee Scholarship benefiting out of state students at Smeal as well as establishing the Reeves Family Early Career Professorship and the Reeves Family Student Success Fund, both to benefit Smeal’s Department of Accounting.  He is also a member of the Accounting Department Advisory Board.

Mr. Reeves is the father of four children, one of whom is also a Smeal graduate, and in his spare time is an avid golfer. Mr. Reeves and his school age son reside in the hill country north of San Antonio, Tx.
