Alumni Give $4 Million Boost To Business Building

Penn State alumni J. David and Patricia Rogers of Darien, Conn., have made an extraordinary gift of $4 million toward construction of the new Business Building at the University Park campus. This adds to an earlier gift of more than $1 million by the Rogers to fund the Smeal Trading Room. Global Trading Competition

Every year professors teach students the fundamentals of financial markets. Now students will experience the real world of financial risk taking in the Smeal College of Business Global Trading Competition. Smeal College is inviting students from around the globe to participate in a simulated, online trading competition. Using Financial Trading Software (FTS), the competition will hold multiple rounds with the overall winner to be announced in April 2003. Alumni Fellow Honors

Patricia (Pat) Woertz, an executive vice president of ChevronTexaco Corp., has been named an Alumni Fellow by Smeal College. The Alumni Fellow program honors prominent and outstanding alumni who are leaders in their fields and who have made notable contributions to society and their communities. Marketing Professor's Research Receives Award

The Marketing Science Institute selected a research paper co-authored by Rajdeep Grewal, Assistant Professor of Marketing, as one of the top submissions in a recent competition. The paper, "Strategic Response to the Advent of the Internet and the Market Valuation of the Firm: The Case of Click-and-Mortar Retailers," links marketing to financial performance, and was one of four papers to receive an "Honorable Mention Award" in the competition. Global Commerce Conference Features Key Policy Makers

The National Press Club in Washington, D.C., will be the site for the Accelerating Global Commerce Through Technology and Policy Conference, which is co-sponsored by e-Business Research Center in the Smeal College, and the Penn State Institute for Information Policy. The conference addresses the technology sector's rebound and economic recovery, and keynote speeches are scheduled from Thomas Leary, Commissioner, Federal Trade Commission; Irving Wladawsky-Berger, Vice President, IBM; Elliot Maxwell, Director of Internet Programs, Aspen Institute; and Mark Forman, Associate Director of Information Technology and E-government, The Office of Management and Budget. Arvind Rangaswamy
Arvind RangaswamyJonas H. Anchel Professor and Professor of Marketing Research Director, eBusiness Research Center. Professor Rangaswamy is actively engaged in research to develop concepts, methods and models to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of marketing using information technologies, an area in which he is internationally recognized. His recent research covers such topics as marketing modeling, online customer behavior, online negotiations and Internet business models. He currently teaches graduate courses in marketing engineering and e-Business.
