Executive MBA Class Formed

The inaugural Executive MBA class in Philadelphia has been formed and will kick-off on August 18. We expect about 30 students in this first class, of which 30 percent are Penn State alumni. This major new initiative is part of the College's growth strategy to expand our MBA program into one of the nation's largest metro areas, which is also home to the largest regional concentration of Penn State alumni in the nation. The same faculty who teach in our internationally ranked full-time MBA program will teach the classes, which will be delivered on alternating weekends at a premier executive campus in Philadelphia, as well as during a few week-long sessions in State College. If you're interested in receiving information about the program, please call 1-800-311-6364 or 814-865-3435, or send an email to: SmealExecMBA@psu.edu.

Study On SEC's Financial Watchdog Finds Efficiency

It may surprise investors to learn that the watchdog organization responsible for overseeing the financial reporting of 12,000 publicly trading companies is actually performing its duties well with limited resources. Orie Barron, associate professor of accounting, is the co-author of four papers examining the Security and Exchange Commission's (SEC) Division of Corporation Finance (DCF). He notes that the DCF's staff of 300 is continuously uncovering material financial reporting deficiencies. Read about his research online at http://www.smeal.psu.edu/news/releases/jul02/watchdog.html
