Kresge Foundation Challenge Supports Building Construction

The Kresge Foundation has pledged $1 million to support construction of Smeal’s new building. As a challenge grant, the Kresge funds will be made available only when the college raises $28 million of its original $29 million private fundraising goal. To date, Smeal supporters have committed $22 million for the building project. Management Professor Named Editor Of Prestigious Journal

David A. Harrison, professor of management at Smeal, was recently named to a three-year term as editor of the journal Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, one of the top journals in business. Accounting Professor Named Outstanding Educator

Charles H. Smith, the KPMG Professor of Accounting at Smeal, has been named the 2004 Outstanding Accounting Educator by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The award reflects excellence in three areas: teaching, student motivation, and education innovation. Annual ISBM Members' Meeting Targets Marketing & Sales

Charles H. Smith
Charles H. SmithKPMG Professor of Accounting

Named the 2004 Outstanding Accounting Educator by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Charles H. Smith joined the Smeal faculty in 1987 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During his career, he has taught financial accounting, managerial accounting, and auditing courses at the undergraduate level; financial accounting and managerial accounting courses to MBA students, and financial accounting theory and research courses at the M.S. and Ph.D. levels. Smith, who earned his Ph.D. from Smeal in 1968, began his career in public accounting in Cape Town, South Africa, where he was born.
