Smeal Professors Develop Innovative Method For Jury Research
Daniel Cahoy, assistant professor of business law, and Min Ding, assistant professor of marketing, have developed a new way to conduct jury research that significantly improves the ability to predict jury behavior. Center For Global Business Studies Predicts Future Trends With New Book
“Global Tectonics: Underlying Trends Shaping the Future of Business," a new book from Smeal’s Center for Global Business Studies addresses the underlying shifts that will revolutionize global business in the future. Dow Chemical Case Competition Tests Marketing Prowess Of Smeal Undergrads
Smeal students enrolled in the class “Business Marketing” recently developed comprehensive plans to market 100-percent-recycled plastics to the automotive industry as part of the Dow Chemical Case Competition. Garbers’ $500,000 Gift Benefits Venture Capital Fund
John Garber (B.S. 1940) and his wife, Bette, have added $500,000 of further support to the Garber Venture Capital Fund. Established in 1999 as an initiative of the college’s Farrell Center for Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Garber Fund provides the means for Smeal MBA students to invest in real-world companies. First Students Set To Graduate From Smeal Executive MBA Program
Twenty-two months after entering the Philadelphia-based Smeal Executive MBA program, the first class of graduates will be honored on June 12 at University Park with a pre-commencement ceremony. Herb Cohen, longtime negotiator and author of the book “Negotiate This!” will offer the pre-commencement address. Bogle, Palumbo Define Success At Smeal Commencement Ceremonies
John Bogle, creator of the first index mutual fund and founder and former CEO of The Vanguard Group, received an honorary Ph.D. degree and offered the commencement address at Smeal’s May 15 graduation ceremony. In a speech entitled “The Right Kind of Success,” Bogle outlined the correct meaning of wealth, fame, and power as they should be today. Philadelphia Stock Exchange Hosts Smeal For Ceremonial Bell Ringing
Trading on the floor of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange was brought to a close on May 13 when Smeal Dean Judy Olian rang a commemorative locomotive bell from the Pennsylvania Railroad. The bell was donated to the college by Smeal alumnus Howard A. Trauger, president of Schuylkill Capital Management. Smeal Research Centers Co-Sponsor Workshop On Adaptive Organizations
The college’s eBusiness Research Center and its Center for Global Business Studies recently co-sponsored a two-day workshop in New York City entitled “Next Practices for the Adaptive Organization: Building on Today’s Best Practices.” The event featured special discussion sessions on business processes, customer services, strategy, and technology. Fundraising for Smeal’s new 210,000-square-foot building continues. The college has raised $22 million of the $29 million needed to achieve the private fundraising goal and complete the building.
