KPMG Professor of Accounting

Smith joined the Smeal faculty in 1987 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and has taught a variety of accounting courses at the undergraduate, MBA, M.S., and Ph.D. levels including financial and managerial accounting, auditing, theory, and research. He has published in many U.S. and foreign academic and practitioner journals and has served as a member of the editorial boards of numerous professional journals.

Smeal Team Wins Big Ten Case Competition

A team of four first-year Smeal MBA students recently won the annual Big Ten MBA Case Competition, with two Smeal students also earning individual accolades at the event. The competition called on teams to propose venture capital funding strategies to support expansion into China. Read more at http://www.smeal.psu.edu/news/releases/

Goldberg Addresses Marketing Influence On Childhood Nutrition

Marvin Goldberg, the Irving & Irene Bard Professor of Business Administration and chair of the Department of Marketing at Smeal, has completed an in-depth report on marketing tactics to address the unhealthy eating habits of children and the growing problem of childhood obesity. Smith To Receive Accounting Education Award

Charles H. Smith, the KPMG Professor of Accounting at Smeal, has been selected to receive the 2005 Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. The award annually recognizes full-time college accounting educators who exhibit excellence in teaching and have achieved national prominence in the profession. Smeal Hosts Panel Discussion On Energy Issues

Top energy executives and Smeal alumni including Pat Woertz of ChevronTexaco, John Arnold of Petroleum Products Corp., and Steve Sheetz of Sheetz Inc. joined Smeal’s Fariborz Ghadar and Don Hambrick for a discussion on the role of energy in today’s economy. Student Marketing Association Named Region’s Best

The Penn State Marketing Association, one of 29 student organizations at Smeal, was named top chapter in the Eastern Region during the American Marketing Association International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans. Finance Major Emerges As Newest Smeal Survivor

Michael Ettinger, a senior majoring in finance and history, withstood several intense rounds of Smeal Survivor V as the virtual CEO of British Petroleum, eventually taking first place in the annual undergraduate leadership competition. Penn State Executive Forum Offers Perspectives On Leadership

Smeal faculty experts on leadership, strategy, and shareholder value will share their expertise during a one-day forum in June at University Park. The Penn State Executive Forum: Perspectives on Leadership will begin with a reception and dinner on June 22 followed by a full-day of knowledge-sharing on June 23. Update: New Building Fundraising Campaign

Fundraising for Smeal’s new 210,000-square-foot building continues. The college has raised $26.4 million so far and is closing in on its $29 million private fundraising goal, which includes a $1 million challenge grant from The Kresge Foundation.
