Hucks Commit $1 Million For New Smeal Building

Fundraising for Smeal’s home of the future has received a million-dollar boost from alumni J. Lloyd and Dorothy Foehr Huck. The building’s executive education suite will be named in their honor. The college has raised in excess of $20.4 million of the $29 million private fundraising goal to complete the building. Kauffman Grant Supports Development Of Center For Entrepreneurship Learning

Smeal’s Farrell Center for Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship has been awarded a seed grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation of Kansas City to develop a detailed plan for a Center of Entrepreneurship Learning (CEL) at Penn State. The University was recently ranked by Entrepreneur magazine as one of the top-tier schools in the country for entrepreneurship education. Palumbo, Bogle To Speak At Smeal Commencement Ceremonies

Daniel Palumbo (MBA ’83), chief marketing officer and senior vice president of The Coca-Cola Company will speak at Smeal’s MBA pre-commencement ceremony at 1 p.m. on May 9 in the HUB Alumni Hall. John Bogle, who helped transform the mutual fund industry as founder of The Vanguard Group, will offer the spring commencement address to more than 1,000 Smeal undergraduates and their families at 4:30 p.m. on May 15 in the Bryce Jordan Center. Smeal Alumnus Receives Inaugural Investment Leadership Award

Arthur D. Miltenberger (B.S. 1960), the retired chief investment officer of the Richard King Mellon Foundation, one of the largest grant-making foundations in the United States, recently received the 2004 Hirtle Callaghan Award for Investment Leadership. “His career sets a standard for all those who sincerely aspire to become trusted advisors,” said Jonathan Hirtle (MBA ’82), founder and principal of Hirtle, Callaghan & Co. Smeal Names Fred Brand Award Winners

Jack Stevens, professor of management and organization; Lynne Grutzeck, academic counselor; and Alan Jagolinzer, doctoral candidate in accounting, recently received Fred Brand, Jr. Awards from Smeal. Named after a 1932 Penn State alumnus who enjoyed a long and prestigious career in the insurance field, the Fred Brand, Jr. Awards are Smeal's highest honors in teaching and advising. Muscarella Named As New MBA Faculty Director

J. Edward Ketz, who has served as Smeal MBA faculty director since 2001 and was a key contributor to the recent program renewal, will step down on July 1 and return to his position as associate professor of accounting. Chris Muscarella, professor of finance, will assume the role of faculty director, serving as academic leader and liaison to MBA faculty, portfolios, and immersion experiences. MBA Trio Honored At Oregon Entrepreneurship Competition

Brian Anderson, Ankit Patel, and Michael Mikalsky won the Best Presentation Award at the University of Oregon’s New Venture Championship business plan competition in Portland. Competing against 20 other schools, the Smeal team’s plan was for new railway car technology that increases cargo fuel efficiency. Chris Muscarella
Chris MuscarellaProfessor of Finance

With expertise in areas such as the underpricing of initial public offerings, limited partnerships, patents, venture capital, and market microstructure, Chris Muscarella has published many research articles in finance. His teaching interests center on corporate finance and he has won eight teaching awards from Smeal MBA students. Before joining the college, Muscarella was a senior financial economist with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, where he worked on insider trading cases and public policy issues.
