Smeal Research: Examining Ethics Codes Effectiveness
Regulatory or governmental mandates calling for the implementation of corporate ethics codes do less to influence the decisions of financial executives than pressure from stakeholders with economic ties to the firm. Team Wins Logistics Case Competition
For the second time in three years, Smeal MBAs won the International Graduate Logistics Case Competition in Chicago. In front of a panel of industry executives from Guidant Foods, FedEx Freight, Miller Brewing, and W.W. Grainger, the team of Matt Deep, Fabian Dohmes, Bert Garnes, Mani Gokarnesan, Alexis Saponsky, and Matt Sheehan trumped teams from Minnesota, Ohio State, Michigan State, and other schools. CD-ROM Investigates Global Tectonics
As part of its Global Trends Project, Smeal’s Center for Global Business Studies recently released a new set of CD-ROMS: “Global Tectonics: What Every Business Should Know.” The set of two CDs explores the most important trends that business leaders will need to monitor in the years to come, from urbanization and nanotechnology, to conflict and governance. Huddart, Fischer Win Best Paper Award
For their paper “Optimal Contracting with Endogenous Reporting Norms,” Smeal co-authors Steven Huddart, professor of accounting, and Paul Fischer, associate professor of accounting, have been selected to receive the 6th McLaughlin Award for Research in Accounting Ethics. Smeal Ranks 16th For Research Eminence
A new database measuring research productivity of business school faculties ranks Smeal 16th overall and 6th among U.S. public schools, with the college among the top 25 in several discipline-specific areas including 6th in management. Farrell Center Surveys High Schools
A survey of teachers, principals, and senior technology officers in secondary schools conducted by Smeal’s Farrell Center for Entrepreneurship and Corporate Innovation found that although few schools have courses in entrepreneurship, 100 percent of participants think it’s crucial for high school students to acquire entrepreneurship skills.
