Mark Dirsmith
Deloitte & Touche Professor of Accounting

With expertise in areas such as the expanding boundaries of the audit function, the shifting nature and location of professional expertise, and planning and control activities within professional bureaucracies, Mark Dirsmith is the author of more than 100 publications including three monographs and more than 70 journal articles. He has taught a range of accounting courses with a primary focus on auditing instruction including financial, compliance, internal, and operational audits; standards and procedures; and professional issues.

Students Begin Managing Unique Investment Fund

Investors have placed more than $2.2 million into the hands of Smeal students with the launch of the Nittany Lion Fund, a student-managed investment portfolio designed to achieve long-term capital growth for investors while providing a learning experience that is as real as life in the financial-services sector. Dirsmith Honored For Excellence In Undergraduate Teaching

Mark Dirsmith, the Deloitte & Touche Professor of Accounting, is one of four recipients of the George W. Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching. Named for the University's seventh President, the honor is reserved for faculty members who have devoted substantial effort to undergraduate teaching. Lin Named Distinguished Professor

Dennis Lin, professor of supply chain management and statistics, has been named a University Distinguished Professor. A recent recipient of a Faculty Scholar Medal from the University, Lin’s newest honor reflects his status as a preeminent researcher in his field. National Innovation Initiative Delivers Final Report

Tony Warren, director of Smeal’s Farrell Center for Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship, served as a member of the 2004 National Innovation Initiative, a yearlong project to develop a strategic and actionable agenda to drive innovation in the United States. Pagonis Lecture To Address Retail Issues

Distinguished alumnus William "Gus" Pagonis, chairman of RailAmerica and a member of the Smeal Board of Visitors, will discuss leadership in the military and retail industry as part of the Melvin Jacobs Retail Leadership Lecture at 3 p.m. on Feb. 23 in the Nittany Lion Inn Ballroom.
