Kenneth Lusht
Lusht, Zimmerman Homes University Endowed Fellow in Business Administration and current chair of the Insurance and Real Estate department, takes over as interim dean of Smeal in January. In the past, Lusht has served Smeal as associate dean for research, director of the doctoral program, director of the Institute for Real Estate Studies, and academic program director for the college's Continuing Education Program in real estate. He has received three Excellence in Teaching Awards from the M.B.A. Student Association and has been Smeal's nominee for two teaching awards at the University level. His research interests include pricing mechanisms in property markets, quality of life studies, real estate investment, and economic impact studies. Lusht holds a Ph.D. from Georgia State University.

Smeal Launches Entrepreneurship Program For High School Teachers
Smeal's Farrell Center for Corporate Innovation and Entrepreneurship has launched a landmark entrepreneurial education program designed to provide school teachers with the skills they need to teach entrepreneurship to high school students. The four-day "Teaching the Teacher" course gives instructors the understanding they need to design their own courses in entrepreneurship through problem-based learning. Jaffe To Head Insurance And Real Estate Department
Austin J. Jaffe, Philip H. Sieg Professor of Business Administration, has been named chair of Smeal's Insurance and Real Estate Department for a three-year term effective Jan. 1. Ventura, Tew Picked To Lead Master Of Manufacturing Management Degree Program
Jose Ventura, professor of industrial and manufacturing engineering, and Jeffrey Tew, clinical professor of supply chain and information systems, have been named co-directors of the master's degree program in manufacturing management. The degree, celebrating its tenth year, is offered through the Quality and Manufacturing Management (QMM) Program, which is administered jointly between the College of Engineering and the Smeal College of Business. Huang Wins Best Dissertation Award
Zan Huang, assistant professor of supply chain and information systems, received the ACM SIGMIS Doctoral Dissertation Award for the best dissertation in the field of information systems at the International Conference on Information Systems in Las Vegas this month. Huang's dissertation, "Graph-Based Analysis for E-commerce Recommendation," examined recommender systems, which are programs that are embedded in companies' Web sites to automatically gather data and recommend products to Web site visitors. Smeal Alum Establishes Trustee Scholarships To Benefit Undergrads
Stewart Stumpo, a 1978 Smeal graduate with a bachelor's degree in marketing, and his wife Lisa Celia have established the Stewart A. Stumpo and Lisa M. Celia Trustee Scholarship, which will provide assistance to undergraduate students at Smeal who need help paying for college expenses. Smeal Professor's Four-Volume Accounting Ethics Published
Routledge has published a new four-volume book set edited by J. Edward Ketz, associate professor of accounting, that includes nearly 100 essays by leading professionals and academics examining the theories and realities of accounting ethics. In Accounting Ethics, Ketz gathers the most important research in the field and offers a comprehensive assessment of the current state of the accounting industry, allowing readers to reassess the field's theories, research studies, and professional practices. Smeal, U.S. Army Form Education Partnership
Penn State Executive Programs has partnered with the Defense Department's U.S. Army Logistics Management College (ALMC) to offer military personnel the opportunity to earn a Certificate in Supply Chain Management. Under this new agreement, members of the U.S. armed forces will earn a supply chain certificate after completing the "Fundamentals of Defense Supply Chain Management" course offered by ALMC and two additional programs.
