Accountants are professionals who help individuals, business firms, or governmental agencies plan for and oversee their financial operations. They have been trained to "work with figures," to pay strict attention to details, and to maintain order in the financial and operational aspects of their work.

The Baccalaureate degree in Accounting prepares you for these professional examinations:

  1. Certified Public Accountant (CPA)—Required for individuals pursuing a career in a public accounting firm.
  2. Certified Management Accountant (CMA)—Recommended for industrial accountants.
  3. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)— Recommended for internal auditors.

Careers in Accounting

  • financial vice president, treasurer, comptroller, budget director (industrial accountants)
  • auditing, tax planning, and consulting (public accountants)
  • state and federal government offices such as the General Accounting Office, the Internal Revenue Service, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation
  • Accounting can also serve as a background for other fields, such as law or management.
