Penn State Student Life

There are many opportunities for Penn State students to get involved and have a great time.

Cultural Events

The Bryce Jordan Center hosts a variety of top shows, while the Center for the Performing Arts brings in a range of performances each season, from Broadway musicals to Chinese acrobats. The School of Theater offers a full season every academic year, as well as the school's professional offering, Pennsylvania Centre Stage, every summer.

Sports

In addition to watching football games and other athletic events, you can try out for a club sport or you can participate in one of the largest intramural programs in the country.

Student Organizations

In addition to the Student Organizations in the Smeal College of Business, Smeal students also choose from over 500 student organizations on the University-level. Penn State also has a strong fraternity and sorority system.

Social Activities

When the homework is done, Penn State students like to spend time with friends. One favorite place to hang out on the University Park Campus is the HUB, the Student Union Building, which is often kept open late for LateNight—Penn State.

Volunteerism and Philanthropy

THON, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, raises millions of dollars every year for kids with cancer, and Smeal students always have a strong showing. They raise money in the year leading up to the weekend dance marathon, and participate in the culminating event.

There are also plenty of volunteering opportunities through other venues. To help you find them, the University's Office of Student Affairs has a volunteer networking office. A variety of student organizations also have service as a key component of their mission. For example, the Penn State Habitat for Humanity chapter is active in raising funds and building homes for homeless families.
