        "Unconscious Bias" Deborah Wilkins, Shell,

        Penn State Room

Could you be discriminating  against others without knowing it?

Unconscious Bias refers to how we make choices and decisions that negatively impact one group to the benefit of other groups, all the while believing our choices and decisions are totally unbiased.  Unchecked, unconscious bias can reduce productivity, learning, and engagement.  You will have the opportunity to learn more about this phenomenon, reflect on how it impacts you and those around you, and obtain practical tips for reducing the impact of hidden bias.

"The World Is Our Campus" Ken Bouyer and  Gioia Pisano, EY,

                Ballroom AB

We live in a diverse and multicultural world.  In order to be successful we must be able to build relationships, team and lead groups of people that have different perspectives, cultures and experiences than we do.  While most of us know this intellectually, what does it mean in terms of day-to-day behaviors?  In this interactive session, we will explore how to develop the skills, behaviors and habits right now at your university. Together, with  faculty, staff, student and employer's perspectives, we will explore concepts such as  frame of reference, insider/outsider dynamic and inclusive leadership. The take away message.. prepare now on campus!  So be prepared to do some things a little differently, a little better.

                              Ballroom AB

Healthcare in America is changing at a rapid pace.  The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is expected to bring approximately 30 million lives into the healthcare system, a step in the right direction as this country confronts an aging population and rise in chronic diseases.  But the nearly 50 million Americans who are part of the low income population face healthcare choices of a very different kind.  Rather than choosing between whether or not they want a health care plan to be in- or out-of-network, low income consumers are choosing between taking the time to see a doctor or going to work so they don’t lose their jobs.  They’re making trade-offs between paying for surgery and feeding their families.

In this workshop, you’ll hear about what Johnson & Johnson is doing to address this challenge through our  Credo.  And how you can leverage the same tactics to build your own personal leadership model.   Learn how you can make your mark on the world – starting at Penn State and beyond.

                                      12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
