Jeffrey D. Tew Joins SC&IS PhD Program

Jeffrey Tew joins the SC&IS department as an Clinical Professor of Supply Chain and Information Systems in Fall Semester 2005.

Dr. Tew received his Ph.D. in industrial engineering from Purdue University, his M.S. in statistics from Purdue University, and his B.S. in mathematics from Purdue University. Dr. Tew is coming to us from General Motor Research and Development Center where he served as co-Director for the GM/Stanford University Collaborative Laboratory on Work Systems.

Previously he was the Director of Logistics Engineering at Schneider Logistics, Inc. in Green Bay, WI. Earlier, he was a Senior Systems Engineer at Consolidated Freightways, Inc. in Portland, OR. and an Adjunct Associate Professor of Computer Simulation at the Oregon Graduate Institute. Dr. Tew is currently an Adjunct Professor of Supply Chain Management at Georgia Tech University and a Visiting Professor of Industrial Engineering at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Dr. Tew has published numerous articles in many operational and supply chain management journals. Besides being in the forefront of research in the theory of supply chain management, he also has extensive practical experience in implementing supply chain structure for different industries. He has lectured extensively on supply chain management, Six Sigma implementations, and quality control at numerous universities including Stanford University and MIT.

Over the past two years, Dr. Tew has been invited to give over 10 focused workshops on executive management training classes throughout China on supply chain management and six sigma to such customers as Accenture, BP, Sinotrans, Eaton, Havi Foods, Henkel, Excel Logistics, China Mobile, etc. His current interests include the application of operations research and information technology tools to large-scale logistics (supply chain) systems and e-commerce.

Jeff and his wife, Lisa E. Tew, recently celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary. Lisa is a Speech Pathologist. Jeff and Lisa have two sons. Benjamin James Tew is 21 and a junior at Western Michigan University. Cameron David Tew is 16 years old and will be an entering Junior in High School this Fall. Jeff's personal interests are chess, traveling (both in U.S. and abroad), and car collecting.
