SC&IS Faculty Teaching Quality Improvement Team Recognized
An SC&IS Faculty Teaching Quality Improvement team will be one of several quality teams recognized on April 30, 2008, by Provost Erickson and the Office of Planning and Institutional Assessment. Current SC&IS faculty team members include Edward Glantz, Norm Aggon, Kitty Riley, Gary Gittings, Evelyn Thomchick, and Marilyn Blanco. The members have been working as a group off and on for several years and more recently under the direction of Larry Spence, associate professor emeritus, to improve teaching in SC&IS. Gene Tyworth, SC&IS department chair, has helped facilitate and encouraged faculty participation.
As faculty with a deep interest in enhancing the learning experience of our students, results have included dramatic improvements in Student Rating of Teaching Effectiveness (SRTE), peer evaluation initiatives, enhanced classroom learning exercises, and a more student-centered perspective for the courses.
The forum will be held in the ballroom of the Nittany Lion Inn, with speaker Maury Cotter, director of the Office of Quality Improvement, University of Wisconsin-Madison. The title of her talk is "Making Change Happen from Wherever You Sit."
