Dennis Lin and Colleagues Awarded IBM Shared University Research Program Grant Award

Dennis Lin and colleagues awarded IBM Shared University Research Program Grant Award

A proposal from Professor Dennis Lin (SC&IS), Professor Lyle N. Long (Aerospace Engineering & Acoustics), and Professor Arthur M. Lesk (Biochemistry & Molecular Biology) was accepted for a grant award by IBM's Shared University Research (SUR) program.

The SUR program awards computing equipment to institutions of higher education to facilitate research. The SUR awards also support the advancement of university projects by connecting top researchers in academia with IBM research personnel. Each year, IBM gives away approximately 50-60 SUR awards worldwide.

The proposal presented by Professor Lin and colleagues includes computing equipment valued at about $500,000. The grant award is envisioned to assist research in areas as diverse as Monte-Carlo Simulation of Detonations (Aerospace Engineering and Chemistry), Processing of Massive Datasets (Smeal College of Business), Bioinformatics and Protein Research (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology), and Collaborative Open-Source Software (Aerospace Engineering, and Academic Services and Emerging Technologies).
