Management Information Systems Association (MISA) Wins Most Improved Organization of 2008
Congratulations to Management Information Systems Association (MISA) on winning the "Most Improved Organization of 2008" award for Smeal Student Clubs. MISA received $500 for the club.
In the last year, MISA raised membership levels from 87 to 124. Members are contacted on a regular basis by the 'Management Information Systems Association Facebook group recently created as well as weekly e-mails about upcoming MISA meetings, internship opportunities, and other Smeal events.
MISA now has a much improved Web site, created by our Webmaster Shameer Douglas. New features include a link to the recommended MIS major schedule, regularly updated flyer, and an introduction into MISA.
Interactions with corporate recruiters have provided internships to many of our members. MISA officers have been in contact with many companies such as CIGNA, IBM, Philip Morris, and Liberty Mutual.
The Management of Information Systems Association executive board does not only focus on Smeal students, but also the Penn State and State College community. MISA members have held weekly meetings with staff from the Community Help Centre of State College to help them design a database. This project gave MIS majors a chance to use classroom knowledge in real world applications.
