Major Mark W. Shellabarger, USMC

Major Shellabarger graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Iowa in May 1992, and was selected for the Marine Corps' Officer Candidates Class. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps in August 1992.

Upon completion of The Basic School in April 1993, he attended The Logistics Officers Course at Little Creek, Virginia. Lieutenant Shellabarger's first tour was with Headquarters Battery, First Battalion, Eleventh Marines at Camp Pendleton, California from May 1993 to January 1996. There he served as the Battalion's Maintenance Management Officer and Embarkation Officer. From February 1996 to July 1997 he was assigned to the Eleventh Marines Regimental Staff as the Regiment's Maintenance Management Officer and Embarkation Officer.

Captain Shellabarger reported to Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego in August 1997. There Captain Shellabarger served with 1st Recruit Training Battalion as a Series Commander and Company Executive Officer, Company D. He served as the Commanding Officer of Company A from April 1999 through May 2000.

From July 2000 until May 2001 Captain Shellabarger attended the Amphibious Warfare School in Quantico, Virginia. He reported to Combat Service Support Group 3, Marine Corps Base Hawaii in June 2001 where he served as the Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of Maintenance Company. In October 2001 Captain Shellabarger attended the Advanced Logistics Officers Course in Quantico, Virginia.

From August 2002 until June 2004 Major Shellabarger transferred to Marine Forces Pacific (MARFORPAC), Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii. Major Shellabarger deployed with the Marine Forces Central Command Headquarters (MARCENT) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he served as manpower plans officer.

Currently Major Shellabarger serves as a Marine Corp Logistics Fellow at Penn State University. Major Shellabarger was promoted to his current rank in June 2002. His personal decorations include the Navy Commendation Medal with gold star in lieu of second award and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of second award. In July 1997 he received a Masters Degree in Human Resource Management from Webster University.
