Evelyn Thomchick Returns From Sabbatical

Evelyn Thomchick

During Evelyn Thomchick's recent sabbatical, she was a visiting scholar at the Norwegian Institute of Transport Economics in Oslo, Norway, in fall 2004.

She also was invited to serve on a special committee of the Transportation Research Board—the Committee on the St. Lawrence Seaway: Options to Eliminate Introduction of Nonindigenous Species into the Great Lakes. The committee is investigating approaches to protect the ecosystem of the Great Lakes while maintaining international trade lanes via the Great Lakes navigational system. The Transportation Research Board is a division of the National Research Council, which is jointly administered by the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine.

Evelyn made presentations on her research on "Ocean Container Trade on the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway," to the Transportation Research Board Committee on the St. Lawrence Seaway, Washington, D.C., June 22, 2004, at the Seventh Annual PTI Conference, University Park, PA, August 12, 2004, and at the Norwegian Institute of Transport Economics, Oslo, Norway, October 26, 2004.

Evelyn also made a presentation titled, "U.S. Transportation Policy and Supply Chain Management Practices: Perceptions of Business and Government" at the 2004 Transport Sciences and Technology Conference, Athens, Greece, September 2, 2004.

Evelyn also serves as principal investigator for the project, "CORRIDOR one Project: Review and Critique," funded by the Modern Transit Partnership, which is affiliated with the Capitol Area Transit Authority in Harrisburg, PA. (May 2005)
