Russell Barton Makes Presentation at Northestern

Russell Barton presented a seminar on "Experiment Design Strategies for Fitting Forward and Inverse Approximations" at the Industrial Engineering & Management Sciences Department, Northwestern University, on January 17, 2006. He described a metamodeling strategy for identifying system design parameters that yield the target performance vector in customer-driven design of systems or products. The metamodeling strategy has many potential advantages over traditional engineering models. His talk identified some of the issues that must be resolved to make the approach practical, and presented a simple strategy for constructing a good experimental design. Russ is currently serving as president of the INFORMS Simulation Society and is Program Chair for the 2007 Winter Simulation Conference.
