Admission Guidelines

This page provides guidelines and eligibility requirements for the MMM degree from the Quality and Manufacturing Management (QMM) program.

Admission Guidelines

The MMM admission committee reviews applications as a whole.  Each piece of the application is an important contributor in assessing the applicant.  Understanding that applicants may not be equally strong in all areas, the admission's committee tries to identify how an applicant may offset a weakness in one area with strengths in other areas.

Admission Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, or science

  • Current undergraduates may apply in their senior year.  The average GPA for applicants is 3.0.

Prerequisites in mathematics, computer science, and statistics

  • Applicants must complete the course requirements prior to starting the program. Additional information about the prerequisite courses is given on the PREREQUISITES page.

Work experience in manufacturing or operations

  • A minimum of three months relevant experience is required. Work experience is key in preparation for the MMM degree and for the careers of its graduates. Applicants without relevant experience will be required to complete an internship, which is typically completed the summer prior to matriculation.  Assistance with internship placement is provided, if necessary.  Applicants with sufficient experience are exempted from the internship requirement.

GRE or GMAT Scores

  • All applicants are required to submit either GRE or GMAT exam scores.  Scores should be reported on the application.  The average GRE score for applicants is 1100/4.0 and the average GMAT score is 580.  Information, such as scheduling and preparing for the GRE or GMAT exams, can be found on their Web sites.

International Applicants

In addition to the requirements above, to be considered for admission to the Graduate School, all students whose native language is not English must achieve a minimum score of 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The TOEFL requirement is waived for international students who have successfully completed undergraduate work in an American college or university.  Information about the TOEFL exam can be found on their Web site.

Note that verbal fluency in English is vital for a students' success in the MMM degree program.

The U.S. Department of State requires that applicants from other nations produce evidence of sufficient funds to cover all expenses for at least one calendar year before a visa will be issued. The amount required varies with the economy. For the most current figures, additional information, or special assistance, contact the International Programs Office.
