Prospective Students

This page explains who is eligible for the Quality and Manufacturing Management (QMM) program. It contains the requirements and prerequisites, admissions policy, and information about pre-enrollment visits to the Penn State.

Admissions Guidelines and Application Information

Applicants who have a bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or business administration may apply for admission to the program. Current undergraduates are eligible to apply in their senior year. At the time of application for admission, all applicants should have:

  • A minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.0
  • An overall GMAT score of at least 580 OR
  • An overall GRE score of at least 1600 if the exam was taken before September 30, 2002. Applicants who have taken the GRE exam after September 30, 2002 should have a minimum score of at least 1100 on the verbal and quantitative sections and at least a 4.0 on the analytical section of the GRE exam. NOTE: All applicants must take the GRE or GMAT exam.
  • Applicants without sufficient work experience in an industrial or production type setting must complete an internship prior to starting the program. Read more about the internship requirement.
  • All applicants must have taken the prerequisite mathematics, computer science, and statistics courses or equivalents prior to starting the program.

Please do not submit information with your application that cannot be used in the admission decision process, e.g., Individual Education Plans (IEP), medical records, statements from physicians or psychologists, or legal documents. Such information will be returned.

Admissions Policy

The MMM degree program is open to graduates of accredited colleges and universities. The admissions committee evaluates applicants on academic and professional potential and accomplishments, overall scores on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE), individual career goals, recommendations, and answers to application essay questions. The MMM degree program admissions policy assures that incoming classes will comprise highly qualified individuals representing a diversity of backgrounds in terms of prior education, undergraduate institutions, significant work experience, and other academic and professional accomplishments. Penn State is an affirmative action university, and the program is committed to attracting qualified applicants from traditionally underrepresented groups, including women and minorities.

Pre-Enrollment Visit

Interested persons are encouraged to visit Penn State's MMM degree program. To arrange a visit, call the MMM degree program office at 814-863-5802.
