Supply Chain Management and Engineering for Financial Results

Penn State Executive Programs is pleased to be partnering with Southern Maryland Higher Education Center in the delivery of top-ranked supply chain education. Candidates may earn a Certificate in Supply Chain Management by completing three programs.

Supply chains are complex interactions of materials, products, processes, and information that need to be synchronized across time and geography. Penn State Executive Programs is pleased to be partnering with Southern Maryland Higher Education Center in the delivery of top-ranked supply chain education for expert management of these diverse pieces on a regional or global scale. Candidates may earn a Certificate in Supply Chain Management by completing three programs.

Program Objectives

Processes and Tools for Supply Chain Success

What are effective methods for Planning, Sourcing, Make, Deliver, and Return? Using the SCOR (Supply-Chain Operations Reference) Model as the thread, participants learn tools and techniques to define, analyze, and implement improvements for each major function with the supply chain. Topics include:

  • Supply chain management and SCOR Model
  • Planning processes for success
  • Strategic Global Sourcing & Landed Cost models
  • Warehousing and distribution concepts
  • Transportation and carrier performance
  • Closed-loop supply chains

Essentials of Supply Chain Management

This program offers all the foundational understanding to managing effective supply chains. Participants learn common terminology, inventory methodologies, distribution concepts, and service performance.  Topics include:

  • Concepts of pooling, postponement, and other inventory deployment strategies
  • Customer service management
  • Industry case study on trading partner collaboration
  • Team-based simulation for applied learning

Achieving Supply Chain Transformation

This program shows how the best-in-class companies adapt their supply chains to the changing environment to improve their competitive position. Participants gain an in-depth understanding of the critical elements of adaptive supply chain management through a business model called “pico tm” and a step-by-step methodology of strategies and capabilities for supply chain innovation and transformation.  Topics include:

  • Change management and implications for supply chain strategy
  • Leadership for transformation
  • Dimensions of high-performing operating models
  • Case studies in transformation

SUPPLEMENTAL COURSE:  Supply Chain Engineering for Financial Performance

This capstone program improves overall strategic leadership of supply chain, engineering, and procurement decisions.  Participants learn how their decisions impact overall financial performance on the organization.  They will take away a better understanding of key financial concepts and how to apply them in evaluating decisions and assessing program risk as well as analyzing competitors and suppliers.  Faculty will provide a “toolbox” of key ratios to gauge performance and overall results. Supply chain efficiencies and inefficiencies will be discussed with an emphasis on impact to cash flow and program performance.

Topics include:

  • Finance for non-financial managers
  • Macroeconomic factors
  • Supply chain finance
  • Supply chain case studies

Tuition:  $1,250 (incl. materials)
Note: Participants earn a Certificate of Completion for this course.

There is no application fee or entrance exam required to attend these programs. Program fees are due prior to the start date and include materials. We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, and American Express.

Southern Maryland Higher Education Center

The Southern Maryland Higher Education Center was established by State Legislation in 1994 as the region’s magnet for on-site graduate and bachelor’s completion degree programs, with 35 high tech classrooms. Today SMHEC hosts 14 distinguished universities offering more than 90 academic programs in their entirety.
