Stephen F. Jablonsky is currently a faculty member of The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania.
Dr. Jablonsky's research and consulting activities are aimed at helping managers develop a better understanding of their business through financial information. As a consultant, he helps management teams use financial information to improve communication flows within the business. As a researcher, he is interested in developing a better understanding of how the firms are changing their communication and control practices in response to increased global competition, technological innovation, and changing patterns of government regulation.
Dr. Jablonsky is in the process of completing the third in a series of research studies focusing on firms link business strategy to shareholder accountability through their management control systems. The first study, Changing Roles of Financial Management: Getting Close to the Business, co-authored with Patrick J. Keating, (Financial Executives Research Foundation (FERF), 1990), examines the changing nature of financial management practices in six major U.S. corporations. The second study, Business Advocate or Corporate Policeman: Assessing your Role as a Financial Executive, co-authored with Patrick J. Keating and James B. Heian, (FERF, 1993), presenting competing models of financial management that reflect two distinctly different management operating philosophies. The current study, Changing Roles II: Strategy, Control, and Accountability, (FERF, forthcoming in 1997), examines how the role of the chief financial officer (CFO) and the entire financial organization in six major U.S. corporations is changing in response to changes in the overall corporate culture.
Dr. Jablonsky is currently working on a book entitled Understanding the Business through Financial Information . This book presents the financial concepts and tools that underlie his approach to working with managers in executive education settings.
Dr. Jablonsky has written articles for Organizational Behavior and Human Performance , Socio-Economic Planning Sciences , Strategic Management Journal , Academy of Management Review , Financial Executive , Management Accounting , among others, as well as a book on not-for-profit accounting.
Dr. Jablonsky received a B.S. in 1967 and a M.A.S. in 1968 in Accountancy at the University of Illinois. He received a Ph.D. in 1974, also in Accountancy, while serving in a number of administrative positions dealing with planning and budgeting at the University of Illinois. He received a C.P.A. in Illinois in 1996.
