From Backpack to Briefcase: The Transition from College to Career

(Room 106, 10:45 – 12:00, students' session)

 The first five years after graduation are essential to building a solid foundation for a successful career, but the transition from college life to professional life can be challenging. This session features recent graduates from the Smeal College of Business who have successfully navigated this transition. Join us for a conversation about how to enhance your professional image, master effective communication skills, and earn a competitive position in the workplace during these critical first years.

 

Current Issues: The Economy

(Executive 1 & 2, 10:45 – 12:00, professionals' session)

Whether you are a recent graduate or have been in the workplace for years, the current economic climate is something that is beginning to affect every household in America.  It is important to understand the recession, as well as strategies for overcoming the challenges it may bring to your career, business, and life.  This panel session on the economy will focus on the current situation and how it affects different industries.  The panelists will discuss how it has affected their businesses, as well as how America fell into a recession and where we go from here.

 

Best Practices: Corporations Supporting Women

(Room 208, 10:45 – 12:00, general session)

 Selecting a company with a supportive network is imperative for success, whether you are entering the workforce for the first time or transitioning to a new employer. Women need to be aware of the support systems that their companies provide and know how to assess career opportunities based on this important component. This session features panelists from corporations who have demonstrated a commitment to cultivating networking opportunities and support systems for female employees. Join us for an opportunity to share your success stories and learn from the suggestions of your peers.
