Admission Process and Applications
Admission to a Smeal College of Business Ph.D. Program is highly competitive. You will be expected to have a strong academic background, a strong interest in doing research, and a career goal of obtaining a position as a professor at a leading business school. Your academic background will be assessed in terms of your grades in your previous college work. In addition, we will look at your GMAT or GRE scores for evidence that you are among the very best in terms of academic promise.
Deadlines for Fall 2012 Admissions
The deadline for completed applications for Fall 2012 admissions is January 6 for Management & Organization, January 16 for Marketing, and February 1 for all other fields. Please note that Insurance and Real Estate will not be recruiting
for fall 2012 admissions. Offers of admission are typically given in March and April.
Most departments will not accept late applications and the graduate degree application fee is non-refundable. Any applications for fall 2012 will be automatically moved to the next admission period (application fees will not be refunded).
Financial Aid
Ph.D. students receive a 20 hour/week Research/Teaching Assistantship that includes a tuition waiver, a subsidized student health plan, and a stipend for living expenses. There are also a limited number of scholarships and fellowships available. Please check with the Ph.D. adviser of the field you are interested in for the up-to-date information concerning the financial aid package. For estimated living expenses, check the information provided by the Bursar's office.
