Position Description

The Smeal College of Business
Alumni Society Board of Directors

The Alumni Society of the Smeal College of Business Administration nominates and elects candidates for the position of board member from a pool of alumni demonstrating an ongoing commitment as volunteers. In accepting the three-year appointment, an individual agrees to fulfill the requirements and meet the responsibilities associated with board membership. These include but are not limited to:

  • Attending and participating in scheduled board meetings. These are held two times each year (fall and spring) and will usually require travel to University Park as well as two overnight stays. The volunteer assumes expenses incurred when participating in alumni activities.
  • Serving actively on alumni board committees. Planning meetings of these committee meetings are held in conjunction with the board meeting, but the work of the committee is carried out through the year.
  • Becoming a representative and spokesperson in the community for The Smeal College of Business and Penn State. This task may involve talking with prospective students, meeting with other alumni, attending local alumni chapter events, and more.
  • Assisting in identifying, cultivating, and involving alumni in areas such as student recruitment, job placement, chapter leadership, financial support, and more.
  • Being familiar with the programs and activities sponsored and organized for The Smeal College of Business.
  • Serving in an advisory and advocacy capacity on behalf of The Smeal College of Business by providing active support, serving as a role model for students, participating in board resolutions and deliberations, and assisting with college development activities.
  • Accepting leadership and participatory roles in programs and activities as needed and working closely with the staff of the College, on behalf of The Smeal College of Business and Penn State. Support the University and the College's mission, vision and strategic plan.
  • Contributing financially to the Smeal College of Business and Penn State.
