Two upcoming events in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia will provide an opportunity for area friends and alumni of the Smeal College of Business to meet the college's new dean and learn about the Smeal alumni clubs in each city.
Meet Smeal's Dean In Pittsburgh And Philadelphia
UNIVERSITY
PARK, PA (September 26, 2006) – Two upcoming events in Pittsburgh and
Philadelphia will provide an opportunity for area friends and alumni of
the Smeal College of Business to meet the college's new dean and learn
about the Smeal alumni clubs in each city.
At both events,
Dean James Thomas will talk about some of the issues and trends
currently affecting business and business education and share some of
his vision for the future of the college. Penn State Provost Rod
Erickson will introduce Thomas and discuss University-level news and
developments.
Each reception is an opportunity to network with fellow alumni and connect with old friends and colleagues.
The
events will also serve as a way to hear more about the Smeal Business
Clubs in each city. The clubs are designed to provide their members
with networking, professional development, and social opportunities.
The events and activities organized by each club are independent and
tailored to the needs and interests of the membership.
The
Philadelphia reception will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, at
The Union League of Philadelphia at 140 South Broad Street. RSVPs will
be accepted online until Oct. 16 at www.smeal.psu.edu/philadelphia.
The
event in Pittsburgh will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at The
Duquesne Club at 325 Sixth Avenue. To RSVP for the Pittsburgh

Thomas, who himself is a Penn State alumnus, became Smeal's fifth dean on July 1. Prior to that, he was dean of Penn State's College of Information Sciences and Technology since its inception in 1999. From 1987 until 1999, Thomas spent 12 years on the Smeal faculty, culminating in appointments as senior associate dean and professor of management and organization.
He
holds a bachelor's degree in political science from Penn State, a
master's degree in political science from Florida State, and a Ph.D. in
strategic management from the University of Texas at Austin.
