Student Events Connect Them With High-Profile Alumni
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (September 13, 2006) – The Smeal College of Business is hosting two events this month to give students tools and opportunities to network with high-level business executives.
On Sept. 28, members of the Smeal Board of Visitors and the college’s Alumni Society Board will return to campus to talk one-on-one with current students and participate in several panel discussions on topics ranging from forensic accounting and supply chain resiliency to succeeding on Wall Street and finding work-life balance.
The evening begins with a reception for attendees and panelists at 5:30 p.m. in the Business Building atrium. The panel discussions get under way at 6:15 and dinner begins at 7:30.
The structured panel discussions will feature executives discussing a broad variety of business topics, with students encouraged to ask questions and get involved in the discussion. Both the reception and the dinner will facilitate more one-on-one interaction between students and the prominent Smeal friends and alumni in attendance.
A complete list of the 16 panel discussions is available at www.smeal.psu.edu/leaders.
Additionally, on Sept. 29, author and small talk expert Debra Fine will offer students advice on how to feel comfortable in any situation by mastering the art of small talk. Fine will share strategies for starting conversations, keeping them going, remembering names, actively listening, exiting with grace, and generally making a positive impression during conversation.
Fine will address students at 12:30 p.m. in the HUB’s Alumni Hall. Lunch is included.
All Smeal students are encouraged to attend both events, which are free but require online registration. For more information and registration, visit www.smeal.psu.edu/leaders.
