Smeal Research Centers Co-Sponsor Workshop On Adaptive Organizations
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (May 21, 2004) -- The eBusiness Research Center and the Center for Global Business Studies at Penn State's Smeal College of Business co-sponsored a workshop on May 19-20 in New York City entitled "Next Practices for the Adaptive Organization: Building on Today's Best Practices." The workshop explored the ideas of adaptability and agility in business organizations from a variety of angles, including IT infrastructure, business processes, strategy, and management of human resources.
MaryFran Johnson, editor-in-chief of Computer World magazine, opened the workshop with an exclusive preview of a survey of their readers regarding their concepts of an adaptive organization. Participants then reviewed several case studies, which facilitated a lively discussion. Panel members with both academic and corporate experience responded to the case studies and furthered the inquiry.
Workshop participants represented such companies as IBM, Hewlett-Packard, Xerox, Unisys, and SAP. Penn State, Boston University, Fordham University, Park University, and Babson College were among the academic institutions represented.
Board members from the eBRC met on the day following the workshop to review the discussions. An interactive CD-ROM and a white paper detailing the workshop discussions and findings will be available by the end of summer 2004.
