UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (March 9, 2006)—Smeal College of Business alumnus Matt Schuyler, executive vice president of human resources for Capital One, will be on the Penn State campus on March 28 as a guest lecturer in human resources management.

Schuyler joined Capital One in April 2002 as senior vice president after serving as vice president for human resources at Cisco Systems, Inc. and as a partner with the Global Human Resources group at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He was named executive vice president at Capital One in December 2003.

In that capacity, Schuyler manages more than 650 human resources associates around the world. Under his direction, those associates provide talent, integration, and infrastructure to the corporation, while managing payroll and benefits for Capital One's 16,000 employees.

While at Smeal, Schuyler will discuss human resources challenges and performance management with an undergraduate management class. Following the class, he will meet in a small-group setting with MBA students interested in pursuing a career in human resources management.

Schuyler earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Smeal in 1987 and holds an MBA from the University of Michigan.

He is the latest high-profile Smeal alumnus to return to the college to share insight gained during his career in business. Next month in Philadelphia, Smeal's Board of Visitors will host several Smeal alumni in a panel discussion about managing risk. The event will also feature three Smeal faculty members who are specialists in risk management. For more information on this event, visit http://www.smeal.psu.edu/philadelphia.
