Advanced Manufacturing Forum Focuses On Journey To Lean

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (March 24, 2005)—Managers from ArvinMeritor, Kennametal, Rockwell Automation, and United Defense will lead interactive presentations on technological and organizational innovation as part of the 57th Advanced Manufacturing Forum from April 14-15 at the Penn Stater Conference Hotel.

Hosted by the Center for the Management of Technological and Organizational Change at Penn State’s Smeal College of Business, the theme of the forum is “The Journey to Lean: From Base Camp to the Summit.” The event is designed to provide attendees with information and insights on lean manufacturing, the process of continuous improvement by means of eliminating waste and enhancing value-added activities. The presentations will be led by:

Mark Frazier, Site Manager, ArvinMeritor Light Vehicle Systems: ArvinMeritor’s Journey to Lean
The company’s Gladstone Plant in Columbus, Indiana manufactures complete exhaust systems and components for leading car makers. Over the past few years, ArvinMeritor has achieved substantial quality and productivity improvements through lean principles, continuous improvement tools, and employee involvement practices.

Bill Kimbro, Corporate Lean Enterprise Manager, Kennametal: Implementing and Sustaining Better Practices
Providing customers with a broad range of technologically advanced tools, tooling systems, and engineering services, Kennametal’s ongoing lean transformation is based on a customer-focused culture globally.

David W. Conrad, Power Lean Manager, Rockwell Automation Power Systems: The Power Lean Solution
A leading industrial automation company, Rockwell Automation has developed an approach called Power Lean, which relies on the power of people to implement lean enterprise principles with the support of six sigma and total productive maintenance.

Marty Paino, Project Manager / Lean Manufacturing, and Bob Koller, Materials Manager, United Defense: War on Waste
