ISBM Event Focuses On Future Of B-To-B
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (June 3, 2005)—The Institute for the Study of Business Markets (ISBM) at Penn State's Smeal College of Business will host a Ph.D. Student Camp for Research in Business-to-Business Markets on July 28 and 29 in San Francisco. The goal of the first-time event is to increase the flow of new academic expertise into the discipline of business-to-business marketing.
Held in conjunction with the American Marketing Association's Summer Educator's Conference, the camp will feature a variety of seminars on research opportunities, challenges, and methods unique to B-to-B. The camp also will offer ample opportunities for business school faculty to network with Ph.D. students.
"The idea for the camp emerged from one simple question: How do we get more people into the field?" said ISBM Research Director Gary Lilien. "The truth of the matter is that we haven't fostered a cadre of leading-edge academic researchers, and those of us already in the field are beginning to look a lot older than we did 10 or 15 years ago."
Joining Lilien from Smeal at the event will be Rajdeep Grewal, associate professor of marketing; and Ralph Oliva, executive director of ISBM and professor of marketing at the college. Faculty from more than a dozen other universities including ISBM Fellow and General Conference Chair Abbie Griffin from the University of Illinois, will also be in attendance, as well as representatives from industry.
ISBM is the world's leading academic center focused on B-to-B marketing. Founded in 1983, it is supported by more than 50 corporations and features a worldwide network of B-to-B researchers, educators, and practitioners. ISBM's mission is to expand research and teaching on B-to-B marketing and sales in academia and improve industry practice.
