Accounting Professor Receives World Campus Honors
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA (January 3, 2005)—Robert Crum, associate professor of accounting at Penn State’s Smeal College of Business, recently received two awards for outstanding teaching in recognition of his impact on Penn State’s World Campus distance education program.
Crum received the 2004 World Campus Outstanding Teacher Award for his significant overall contributions to World Campus and its mission. Graduating iMBA students also named Crum the Outstanding Faculty Member in the program. He teaches Accounting for External Reporting as part of Penn State’s new online MBA offering.
“We in the iMBA are delighted to have Bob as a colleague,” said John Fizel, director of the iMBA program. “His dedication, creativity, and passion for students set standards for all to emulate.”
In selecting Crum as Outstanding Teacher, iMBA students cited his ability to recognize student comprehension; enthusiasm in motivating students to understand and appreciate the material; availability to address student questions; and innovative approach to teaching; among other attributes. Crum describes teaching iMBA students across five continents as "one of the most rewarding experiences in my academic career."
With expertise in the economic effects of tax policy and business and industry analysis, Crum also teaches Smeal classes in taxation, business & indutry analysis and managerial accounting at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
The World Campus iMBA program, which features faculty from Penn State Erie, Penn State Great Valley, Penn State Harrisburg, and Smeal, graduated its first class of students at the end of the fall 2004 semester. Students from 34 states and eight countries have participated or are currently participating in the program since its inception in September 2002.
